I am an Associate Professor in Economics at Vijoygarh Jyotish Ray College in Kolkata, West Bengal (India). Before joining this college I was appointed as an Assistant Professor at Kandi Raj College, Murshidabad, West Bengal from 2002-2014. I have completed my doctoral degree on socio-economic aspect of groundwater arsenic pollution in West Bengal from Jadavpur University. I have been researching extensively over past one decade in the various villages of rural West Bengal to understand the social, economic and political issues that drives lack of access to safe drinking water. My understanding of the problem is based on rigorous research and extensive intervention with rural communities, government and non-governmental service providers. My field research has been primarily funded by University Grants Commission of Government of India. I am actively associated with the Research Programme “Commercialisation a Scalable Low- Cost Arsenic Remediation Technology for Social Impact” as research team member since 2009. This project was undertaken by the research team comprises experts from University of California, Berkley (UCB) and Global Change Programme (GCP), Jadavpur University funded by Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, University of California, Berkley, United States-india Science and Technology Endowment Fund (USISTEF). I have penned books both in Bengali and English version. Bengali book ‘Jale Arsenic-Prasanga Pashimbangya’ published by Mitram, Kolkata; English book ‘Socio-economic analysis of arsenic contamination of groundwater in West Bengal’ published by Spriger Nature, Singapore. I also authored Text Books for School Students and College level students. I have published several research articles in different national and international journals as well as book chapters. Presented my research findings on arsenic problems in West Bengal in different international and national seminars and conferences. I also edited one book titled ‘Arsenic in Groundwater: Complexities and Challenges Ahead in West Bengal’, Publised by Shilpa Nagari Prakashani, Murshidabad, West Bengal.
Awarded as a Director for the Film “Beyond the Veil” in the 5th International Science Film Festival of India 2020 (IISF,2020) which was held virtually during 22nd to 25th December 2020 organised by Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Earth Sciences and Ministry of Heath and Family Welfare, Government of India in collaboration with Vijnana Bharati (VIBHA) and Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). I get awarded by Rotary Club as an environmental activist. Received Best Paper award in different National and International Conferences.
