Institutional Initiatives for Electoral Literacy

An Electoral Literacy Club is a platform to engage college students through interesting activities and hands-on experience to sensitize them on their electoral rights and familiarise them with the electoral process of registration and voting. At ELCs, activities are designed to stimulate and motivate students provoking them to think and ask questions. Through ELC, the Election Commission of India aims to strengthen the electoral participation culture among young and future voters.

Vijaygarh Jyotish Ray College has an Electoral Literacy Club since 2017. This club is composed of students, teachers as well as non-teaching staff of the college. There is a student coordinator and co-ordinating faculty members who are appointed by the college Principal. The Principal is the President of this club while Dr. Ruma Roy, Department of Political Science, and Dr. Arnab Kumar Banerjee, Department of Journalism & Mass Communication are the joint co-ordinators.

The electoral Literacy Club in Vijaygarh Jyotish Ray College is a highly active association of teachers, students, and non-teaching staff as well, who are involved in organizing and participating in various programs like quizzes, debates, youth parliament, etc. related to the Indian Electoral Process, Indian Constitution and Parliamentary affairs since its inception.
