Alumni Lecture

The Department of Physics initiated an Alumni lecture series last year of which, the second lecture was : “Virtual representation of Planet Earth” , by Ms. Madhurima Chakravorty, delivered in the online mode on 28.09.2022. Ms. Chakravorty is currently in the Univ. of Manitoba, Canada.

 

Alumni Meet

The Department of Physics organized an Alumni Meet on 20.12.2022 in the Physics Laboratory of the College.

 

Students’ Felicitation Programme

The Department of Physics felicitated the students of the last (2021-22 batch) who secured an SGPA above 6.0 in B.Sc. 2022. Eight students were felicitated. The Programme was held on 22.12.2022 in the Physics Laboratory of the College.

 

Students’ Counselling

The teachers of the Department of Physics meet the students for counselling at intervals. One such program was held for the then Semester – VI (Hons) students on 08.06.2022, and another for the Semester – II (Hons) students on 23.06.2022. Another Counselling program for the Semester – I (H) student was held on 23.12.2022.

Online Survey

An online survey was conducted by the Department of Physics in June, 2021, among the students the Department, regarding their experience about the online classes during the lock down period. There were 29 responses.

 

Students’ Seminar

Students’ webinar, organized by the Department of Physics, on 18th June 2021. Mr. Junik Sengupta delivered an online talk titled : “ Black Hole Information Paradox” on the Google-meet platform. There were approximately 46 participants.

 

Mentoring Lecture

Mentoring Programme (online), on 13th September, 2021, organized by the Department of Physics, Vijaygarh Jyotish Ray College. Speaker : Ms. Sahin Nasrin of Shri Shikshayatan College, Kolkata, who is also an alumna of the Department.

 

Gender Sensitization Program

A Gender sensitization Lecture titled : “Gendering Education” was organized on November 30, 2021, by the Dept. of Physics, IQAC and the Women Cell, Vijaygarh Jyotish Ray College. The speaker was Ms. Debdatta Chowdhyury, Assistant Professor in Gender Studies at the Centre for Studies in Social Sciences, Calcutta. The number of participants exceeded 100.

Alumni Lecture Series

The Department of Physics has initiated an Alumni lecture series of which, the first talk was : “Bio-impedance, A Possible Solution to Faster Cancer Detection” , delivered in the online mode on 27.12.2021, by Mr. Somnath Bhattacharjee, who belonged to our 2018 batch.

 

Add-on Course

 

A 30 hours’ free Certificate Course on Programming in C language and Python, was offered by the Department of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry together, in collaboration with IQAC, Vijaygarh Jyotish Ray College. The course was to be conducted in online and offline (blended) mode. It was inaugurated by the respected Principal of our College on 22.04.2022.

 

 

Educational Excursion to B.I.T.M., Kolkata

 

An educational excursion was organized by the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and Physiology, Vijaygarh Jyotish Ray College, on 19th May, 2022, to the Birla Industrial and Technological Museum, Kolkata.

 

Students’ Felicitation Programme

The Department of Physics felicitated the students of the 2021 as well as the 2020 batch (since the program could not be conducted in 2020 due to the pandemic situation). The students who secured first class in the B. Sc. 2020, were felicitated, together with those who secured an SGPA above 6.0 in B.Sc.

Students Attending Prof. Narlikar’s Lecture

The students of the Department of Physics were taken to Ramkrishna Mission Institute of Culture at Golpark, Kolkata, to attend the Lecture of Prof. J. V. Narlikar, on 27th September, 2019. The lecture was organized on the occasion of the completion of 30 years of ‘E Yuger Kishor Vigyani’. The number of students attending the lecture was approximately 12.

 

Students’ Seminar

Students’ seminar, organized by the Department of Physics, on 18th November, 2019. Mr. Junik Sengupta, who was the then a first year (Hons) student of the Department, delivered a talk titled : “ LIGO, Hearing the Gravitational Wave”.

 

Students’ Excursion to Science City

 

The students of the Department of Physics were taken on an excursion on 30th November, 2019, to visit the Science City, Kolkata and also to attend the ‘Vigyan Samagam’, the first mega science exhibition in India. The number of students who took part was roughly 15. Junik Sengupta, one of the students of the Department was selected as a volunteer on behalf of the LIGO-India project and received special training for demonstrating the project.
