Our daily activities are primarily based on common sense or what we have learnt from others or through personal experience or observation. However, conflicting theories and situation-based varied outcomes have always been a drawback of such an approach. Most importantly, common sense-based approaches may overlook the impact of external factors. Carefully organized and controlled research enables testing and comparing different theories and approaches, exploring different methods, and learning from others’ experiences.
Scientific research as a career option is not only highly rewarding professionally but also one of the most ideal platforms for designing transformative technologies. Research in arts and humanities provides high-level skills that can make significant contributions to the economy and society. Today, research is an integral part of higher education and is increasingly becoming a popular career choice among students.
In the last century, research used to be undertaken by scientists in specialized institutes and select educational institutions. However, from the beginning of the twenty-first century, both central and state governments have been promoting research activities in educational institutions. Various schemes and funding opportunities—such as from UGC, DBT, DST, and CSIR—have encouraged faculty to conduct innovative projects.
Since Vijaygarh Jyotish Ray College offers a Post Graduate course in Microbiology, a basic research environment has already developed over time. To strengthen this further, the college administration established a Research and Guidance Cell with the following aims:
The cell also ensures that faculty members are able to provide guidance and mentorship to students at both postgraduate and doctoral levels.
The Research & Guidance Policy of the college ensures a structured framework to promote academic research, innovation, and collaboration across departments. It outlines the institutional mechanisms to support research proposals, funding, and the dissemination of findings through academic publications and events.
